Sogsvann in Winter

We've had a deal of snow in the past couple of days. The birch forests of Sognsvann, just north of my apartment, is a mecca for the Oslo cross-country skiers (and there is a good deal of them!!). Oslo has a really great feel in the winter - there are people in their ski gear on the metro all the time, the Christmas markets are up and running, and there are lights everywhere.

Red Sky at Night, Sailors' Delight

Oslo has had some really amazing sunsets in the past while. Though really the sun seems to be already setting as soon as it rises.

I'm in Oslo for a reason.

On most weekdays, I spend my days in libraries writing and researching my thesis.

This is the Deichmanske Bibliotek - Oslo public library.

This is the view from the library of Norges Handelhøyskole. It is in a new building in the neighbourhood of Nydalen. It is a maze of pedways, stairs, and escalators that go up four floors at a time.

Sognsvann

One train stop after my stop (Kringsjå) is Sognsvann. It is a popular lake to walk around and swim in during the summer months.

Pious Lutherans

The skyline of Bergen is largely dominated by the dozens of churchs, which range from the ancient to the super modern.

Sandvikskirken

Bergen only has one catholic church, this one - St. Paulskirke.

Wildlife

Norway is known for its dangerous, sometimes ferocious, wildlife. I have maganed, at great personal peril, to assemble some shots of these beasties.

A Sunny and Snowy Easter Weekend

Søndre Kleivesmauet

Most flowers have sprouted and are in bloom.. too bad for them Norway is trying to crush them.

On Easter Sunday, 'gatepresten' or the street priest, peddles around. We thought about taking some of the free buns, but realised they probably cost too much to be free..

I didn't know there were Canadian backbenchers in Norway!

Shifty dark alleys of Bergen..

Passing images of Bergen

I have absolutely no idea what this is for...

It took a lot to get a picture where the children running around down there were all simultaneously behind trees
